How to Set Up Flight Alerts on iPhone (the Right Way)
A complete guide to setting up flight notifications on iPhone — Live Activities, Lock Screen widgets, smart alerts, and what to turn off so you aren't spammed.
What good flight alerts look like
The right notification fires once, contains the answer, and doesn't require you to open the app.
A clean iPhone setup looks like this:
- Live Activity on the Lock Screen for the active trip.
- Push for delay, gate change, and baggage.
- Calendar event for departure with a 3-hour reminder.
Step 1: Pin the flight in a tracker
Open FlightyFlow, search the flight number, and tap the star. Live Activity launches automatically a few hours before departure.
Step 2: Configure notifications
Settings → Notifications → FlightyFlow:
- Allow notifications: ON
- Show on Lock Screen: ON
- Sounds: ON
- Critical alerts (delay): ON
In FlightyFlow itself, leave on:
- Delay
- Gate change
- Departure and Arrival
- Baggage carousel (where supported)
Turn off:
- "Boarding" if you find it stressful
- Generic marketing pings
Step 3: Lock Screen widget
Add the FlightyFlow Lock Screen widget. You'll see departure time, gate, and delay status without unlocking the phone.
Step 4: Calendar back-up
Create a calendar event for the flight; add a 3-hour reminder. Belt and braces.
Step 5: Apple Watch complication
If you wear an Apple Watch, add the FlightyFlow complication to your travel watch face. Tap it to see the next event in one beat.
