How to Use Mobile Passport Control (MPC) at US Airports
A complete guide to Mobile Passport Control — what it is, who can use it, where it works, and how it compares to Global Entry.
What MPC is
Mobile Passport Control is a free app from US Customs and Border Protection that lets eligible travelers skip the regular passport line on inbound international arrivals.
Who can use it
- US citizens
- US lawful permanent residents
- Canadian citizens (B1/B2 visitors)
- Travelers on the Visa Waiver Program
Where it works
Most major US international airports — JFK, LAX, ORD, MIA, IAH, SFO, ATL, DFW, IAD, SEA, BOS, EWR, PHL, MCO, FLL, MSY, MSP, AUS, BWI, IAH, DEN, SAN, PDX, RDU, plus most preclearance facilities in Canada.
How to use it
- Download Mobile Passport Control before your trip.
- Add your passport (one-time setup).
- After landing, before passport control, open the app.
- Confirm trip and answer the customs questions.
- Submit. You'll get a QR code valid for ~4 hours.
- Use the MPC line at passport control.
MPC vs Global Entry
| MPC | Global Entry | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free | $120 / 5 yrs |
| Speed | Fast | Fastest |
| Includes PreCheck | No | Yes |
| Eligibility | Broad | Application required |
If you fly internationally more than once a year, Global Entry is still better — it includes TSA PreCheck. But MPC is a no-brainer when you don't yet have GE.
