How to Track a Private Jet by Tail Number in 2026

Tail numbers, ADS-B blocking, and what's actually visible to a consumer flight tracker for private aviation in 2026.

The basics

Most private jets transmit ADS-B and are visible to consumer trackers. To pull one up, you need the N-number (US) or local-prefix tail number (e.g., G- in UK, D- in Germany).

ADS-B blocking

The FAA's PIA (Privacy ICAO Address) and LADD (Limiting Aircraft Data Displayed) programs let owners hide aircraft from consumer trackers. If a tail number returns no results, it's likely opted in.

How to track a tail you can see

  1. Open FlightyFlow → +Search by Tail Number → enter, e.g., N123ZZ.
  2. Pin → live position appears on the map.
  3. Live Activity starts when the aircraft is en route.

Ethics

Tracking individual private jets without consent has become a public conversation. Consider why you're tracking and respect privacy programs.
