What "best" means depends on your trip
- Sleep on a redeye: window, behind a bulkhead, away from galley.
- Quick deplane: aisle, front of cabin.
- Legroom: exit row, bulkhead, or paid extra-legroom.
- Quiet: ahead of the engine pylon on twin-jets.
Aircraft-specific tips
- A320 family: row 1 or first exit row for legroom. Avoid row 31 (recline limited).
- 737 MAX/NG: exit rows 16/17 are gold; row 1 has a partition.
- 787-9: forward window is excellent on most carriers.
- A350: rear cabin is markedly quieter than front; bulkheads in the mini cabins are great.
- 777-300ER (10-abreast): skip middle of three; aim for window 1 or 11 in 3-4-3.
How to pick
- SeatGuru still works for most fleets.
- Aerolopa offers excellent dimensioned seat maps.
- AwardWallet Trip Manager will warn about bad seats.
Last-minute upgrades
Watch the seat map at T-24 and T-1 hours; upgrades and no-shows free up better rows. Recheck during boarding from your gate.
