BKK Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Guide for 2026
Concourses, the new SAT-1 satellite, customs, the Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai, lounges, and how to track every BKK flight in 2026.
Quick facts
Suvarnabhumi (BKK / VTBS) is Bangkok's primary international airport and Thai Airways' main hub. The 2023 opening of SAT-1 (Satellite Terminal 1) added 28 gates and ~60 million annual passenger capacity.
- Time zone: Asia/Bangkok (UTC+7, no DST)
- Airport Rail Link: BKK → Phaya Thai in 26 minutes
SAT-1 vs Main Terminal
SAT-1 is connected to the main passenger terminal by an automated people-mover (APM) that takes about 3 minutes. If you're connecting between concourses A–G in the main building and concourses S in SAT-1, plan an extra 15–25 minutes.
DMK vs BKK
Bangkok also has Don Mueang (DMK), the older airport still used by AirAsia, Nok Air, and other LCCs. Transfers between DMK and BKK take 60–90 minutes via the dedicated airport shuttle bus.
Visa
US/UK/EU/CA/AU passport holders get visa exemption on arrival for tourist stays. Always carry proof of onward travel — Thai immigration will ask.
Lounges
- Royal Orchid Spa & Lounge (Thai Airways flagship).
- Cathay Pacific Lounge (G concourse).
- Miracle Lounge — multiple Priority Pass options across both terminals.

Frequently asked
How early should I get to BKK for an international flight?+
Three hours is comfortable. Two and a half if you have priority security access. Long-haul evening departures see the heaviest queues.
Is BKK metro fast?+
Yes. The Airport Rail Link reaches Phaya Thai in 26 minutes and connects to the BTS network there. It is significantly faster than a taxi during rush hour.
