How status match works
You apply to Airline B with proof of Airline A status. They grant temporary equivalent status (often 90 days), with a "challenge" of activity required to keep it for the year.
Who matches in 2026
- Alaska, JetBlue, Hawaiian — frequent matchers.
- Delta, United, American — selective; usually only via promotions.
- Lufthansa Miles & More — limited program-to-program matches.
- Avianca LifeMiles — status match has run periodically in 2026.
How to apply
- Hold Gold or above somewhere (mid-tier matches are easier).
- Send PDF proof: status card, recent miles statement, an active member email.
- Use the airline's status match form or a polite agent email.
- Wait 1–4 weeks.
What to do during the challenge
Concentrate flying with the new carrier. Most challenges require 5–10 segments or a fixed mileage threshold within 90 days.
Why it's worth it
You can get top-tier status while still flying broadly, especially in the months around a major life trip.
